Handmade natural stone pigment, oil on canvas.

A flower blooming is a powerful symbol that represents growth, transformation, and the unfolding of potential. It reflects the idea of new beginnings, as the flower emerges from a bud into full bloom, symbolizing the culmination of a journey. Artist Júlia Godoy explores the courage to embrace change through the use of handmade pigments collected from locally sourced natural materials.

Júlia Godoy’s natural pigments undergo a process she refers to as blooming, where the pigments settle into their final form, evoking the memory of the earth. She believes that the earth holds its own sense of memory, and this is reflected in the way her handmade paints shift and transform as they dry. This blooming process symbolizes the organic movement and subtle changes inherent in the natural materials she works with, capturing the essence of the earth's timeless presence.

Through IN BLOOM, Júlia Godoy unearths her own past experiences and memories with a collection of ethereal, raw paintings that evoke resilience in the face of life's inevitable changes with bold simplicity. With subtle tonal shifts, she suggests an internal journey — the rising warmth of rebirth emerging from the darker depths of fear.

IN BLOOM is a call to welcome nature’s unyielding force. Showing that just like the earth itself, we too can weather our challenges, emerging renewed and transformed.
