Life imitates art.

For most of my life, I painted figurative work. Portraits, landscapes, paintings that felt "right” and familiar. But over time, I began noticing that although I could finish them, I wouldn't feel connected to them. At the same time, I found myself obsessively searching for specific pigments in nature, trying to control every color and outcome. One day, after returning home empty handed from another search for a color I needed, I realized how much my art was reflecting my life. The same control I was holding onto in my paintings had woven itself into my relationships, my environment, and the way I was moving through the world. I found myself standing at a crossroads between what felt safe and what felt unknown, but necessary.

During this period of rebuilding, I experienced a vision that completely changed the direction of my work. I saw paintings unlike anything I had made before, and when I ran to the studio to paint them, I realized they already existed. They weren't in the finished works hanging around me, but in the small pigment test swatches I had mindlessly painted and pinned to the wall to reference the colors I was working with. Overlooked, but waiting for me the entire time. That moment became the beginning of the Mail Club: a monthly reminder to notice what’s calling from beneath the surface, and the parts of ourselves asking to be seen.

Each month, I send an original miniature watercolor painting made from a natural pigment I’m currently working with, paired with a handwritten letter. Inside, I share reflections on creativity, belonging, intentional living, and my ongoing search for meaning through color, along with a monthly journal prompt and a small quote card to carry with you throughout the month. More than anything, the Mail Club is meant to feel like receiving a thoughtful letter from a creative friend. A small reminder, at each fork in the road, that you’re not moving through it alone.

Warmly,

Júlia Godoy

  • "Attended a class with Júlia when we were in LA. It was slow, relaxing, and beautiful. Júlia discovers beauty in soil/clay/rock/ground. It's always wonderful to receive the little rectangles of paint swatches from her travels and her handwritten letters. Thank you Júlia for bringing little pockets of beauty to us all."
