What People Are Saying

“Meeting Julia. Her personality is so easy going and welcoming. It had been a rainy week before the workshop, and I didn't realize that coming to this wholesome experience was the best antidote I needed for that time in my life. The workshop was so personal and cozy, the studio time an enriching environment. I enjoyed the process of grinding natural pigments and combining with the medium, exactly what I envisioned the workshop would be, but then to have Julia's guidance about it---what a joyful resource! I left the workshop not only with my own set of paints that I made. but also feeling great about life and artistry.”

- Eric, Los Angeles Workshop Student

- Katie, Los Angeles Workshop Student

“Julia’s workshop came during a time in my life where I lost touch with my creativity. The way she talked so openly about her life was inspiring, and seeing how much care she put into explaining and teaching me about nature paints is something that will stay with me forever. What a beautiful space, her paintings were inspiring, I could feel them. Thank you, Julia, for inviting me into your world.”

- Ashley, Los Angeles Workshop Student

“Julia taught me and my friends in a way that was so clear, I left with a deep knowing that I CAN paint! Not only does she know a lot about art, paint making, and making pigments from nature, but it felt like she was able to talk directly to my heart. 10/10 experience.”

Begin Where You Are.

Whether through a letter in the mail, a handmade palette, or the process of gathering color from the earth, The PIGMENT COLLECTIVE was created as a place to return to creativity slowly, intentionally, and in your own rhythm.

Why the PIGMENT COLLECTIVE Exists

The PIGMENT COLLECTIVE was created as an extension of my studio practice and is an evolving space where natural pigment, paint making, and slow material exploration can be shared beyond the walls of my studio.

Working with nature in this way has opened my world in ways I still struggle to put into words. There is something profoundly grounding about learning to see color as something that is not manufactured, but uncovered. It's something already held within the land, and within you. It's just waiting to be revealed through patience, observation, and care. Over time, this practice has not only shaped my work, but has also become a form of return. A way of reconnecting to attention, to process, and to a slower rhythm of making that feels deeply human.

The PIGMENT COLLECTIVE holds all of this in one place. It is where my studio practice, research, and teaching come together through monthly correspondence and through in depth online learning that guides you step by step into natural pigment processing and paint making. It is not only about technique, but about developing a more attentive relationship with material, and allowing that relationship to shape the way you create and live.

Whether you arrive through the Mail Club or through an online course, you are stepping into an ongoing conversation with material, place, and process.

And if you feel called to experience this work more directly, I also offer in person workshops and retreats where we gather, work with pigments together, and learn through shared making in intentionally planned locations. You can explore those on the workshop page below. I would genuinely love to meet you there.

As always, thank you for being here.

Warmly,

Júlia Godoy
