Fear is a mile long and an inch deep.

When I make a new color in the studio, I always create a paint swatch and pin it to the wall. It serves as a reference for the hues I’m working with- how light or dark I am able to push a color. But over time, this little swatch has symbolized much more for me.

In a world of constant consumption, I realized how much of my life was rooted in a sense of urgency. I felt as if I had to constantly be putting out work, chasing the next milestone, or rushing off to somewhere. After years of working at 110% capacity, I felt extremely burnt out. Life gave me the opportunity to stop, recenter, and look at my life. (Although at the time, I didn’t see it as an opportunity.) What I saw, made me feel so depressed. I was working at a job I didn’t like (service industry rat since my teen years…) in a city I didn’t love, in relationships which were unfulfilling, and worried about things out of my control.

I decided enough was enough. I made the decision to follow my dream of being an artist, and that I wouldn’t let anything stop me. What I realized was that a creative path is an internal one. It is a constant practice of introspecting, questioning, and adjusting. I realized how much of my life was run by fear—fear of being seen, a scarcity mindset, fear of failing.

But as I began to slow down and embrace the process rather than just the outcome, something shifted. The little swatch on my wall became a quiet reminder that creativity isn’t about urgency or perfection—it’s about presence. Each color I create is an act of trust, a step forward in my journey, and a reflection of the life I am intentionally building.
